I felt that way about A Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks, and still haven't gotten over the disappointment I experienced at the end of that book.<br /><br />Anyway, I think this sounds really interesting, despite your warning about the marginal ending. I'm trying to read more about Asia and this seems like a good way to go, and I tend to like the double-story approach.<br /><br />Global climate changes scares me too.
